The unpopular decision by the GES to use the 2023 school placement as punishment for JHS 2 and JHS 1 students who sat the 2023 BECE has been declared a wrong decision by many Ghanaians, including Africa Education Watch. One ardent reader of EducationBlog, Mr. Nyarko Prince, has indicated his support for the African Education Watch position on the matter.
This was contained in a post filed by Mr. Nyarko Prince. He stated that the decision of the GES, if implemented, contradicts the principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
In his view, the move will only serve as an obstacle to the education and development of the student.
Below is the open letter to GES on using school placement as punishment for JHS2 students who wrote the 2023 BECE by Nyarko Prince
He write…
INAPPROPRIATE USE OF SCHOOL PLACEMENT AS PUNISHMENT FOR JHS 2 STUDENTS WHO WROTE THE BECE
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to express my strong agreement with the position of the African Education Watch regarding the improper use of school placement as a punishment for JHS 2 students who have taken the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
As a concerned citizen and a firm believer in the importance of a fair and equitable education system, I believe that such a practice contradicts the principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Educational opportunities for all citizens, without discrimination or punitive measures.
Using school placement as punishment not only undermines the fundamental rights of these young students but also hampers their educational progress and limits their chances of achieving academic success. It is essential to foster an environment where education is valued and supported, enabling every child to reach their full potential.
I respectfully urge the Ghana Education Service to discontinue this practice immediately and explore alternative means of addressing disciplinary issues in schools. I believe it is crucial to uphold the principles of fairness, justice, and inclusivity in our education system.
I trust that you will give this matter the attention it deserves and take appropriate steps to rectify the situation. I also kindly request that you keep me informed of any actions or decisions made regarding this issue.
