Are you aware that SHS1 students are to report to school on Dec. 4 as SHS1 students?
On December 4, 2023, all 2023 BECE candidates who excelled in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been placed and subsequently enrolled in their respective free SHSs. They will report to school for their first semester of the 2023–2024 academic year.
According to the Director General of the GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah, SHS1 students are to report on December 4 as planned.
When asked if the calendar was possible, Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), assured that everything would go as planned.
He stated that the GES has implemented a plan to expedite the Computerised Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), and hence the December 4 reporting deadline for first-year pupils was feasible.
Students in SHS3 and SHS2 are already in school. Their academic year started on November 1, 2023.
Form One students under the double track system will be in school from December 4, 2023, to March 5, 2024, and May 13, 2024, to July 9, 2024.
Form Three students under the double track system will begin their first semester on January 3, 2024, and end the second semester on August 23, 2024.
Form Two students under the single track system will report to school today until March 5, 2024, and begin the second semester from May 3, 2024, until August 28, 2024.
Form Three students under the single-track system will complete the academic year on August 28, 2024.
Basic schools will be in session for 39 weeks in total, with three terms.

The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, said the calendar would require a lot of explanation for parents to understand.
The Chairman of the Madina, Abokobi, Adenta District of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, Christian Yaw Adinkra, wondered how feasible it was for Form 1 students to report to school on December 4 and end the term around March 2024.
