2023 BECE graduates to start SHS 1 on Sept. 25 -GES
The Ghana Education Service has in a press statement disclosed that 2023 BECE graduates are to start their SHS education from Sept. 25. Per the GES, this information “2023 BECE graduates to start SHS 1 on Sept. 25” is to be communicated to all parents and other stakeholders.
In the latest statement signed by the Acting Director of Schools and Instruction Division, Prince Agyemang-Duah, GES said, “By this letter, Regional Directors of Education are requested to communicate this information to all Head of Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools to inform parents/guardians and students to take note of the new date and prepare accordingly.”
The challenge currently is that the BECE results are yet to be released by WAEC for the examination which ended on 11th August, 2023.
Again, BECE candidates are yet to choose the schools they want to be considered for during the school placement phase.
School selection which was supposed to end on end on 4th September was postponed by the Ghana Education Service days before it commenced and all sensitization plans were quashed by the service.
At the time of this publication, the GES had also informed the public that it had rescheduled the school selection to start on the 11th of September until the 22nd of September.

The new directive that all SHS1 students are to report to school on 25th September is not clear. The public is equally confused given the mixed-up information that GES is providing. The question that needs to be answered is whether this new directive is for students who were in form one when the WASSCE started so that these students will go back to school to complete their academic work for the third term or it is for the new Junior High School graduates who are waiting to start selecting their schools.
The GES needs to refine its communication and make its press releases equally free from ambiguity so that it can achieve the essence of communication and clear doubts and confusions that characterize some of its press releases consumed by the public.
