When the Ghana Education Service releases the school placements, there are very important reasons why 2023 BECE graduates with an aggregate of 25–45 must check their placements early. Checking early will go a long way towards avoiding the challenges explained in the next set of paragraphs in the article.
When the GES released the school placement for 2022 candidates, 165,619 candidates had to use self-placement, while 372,780 candidates were automatically placed. If your grade is between 25 and 45, you may have to use the module.
It is important to let parents and their wards know that they will not have the chance of choosing one of the schools they selected earlier when they use the self-placement module.
Most of the schools in the self-placement module are category C schools. You can start looking at the schools in there and make a list of those you may choose just in case you have to self place.
Why 2023 BECE Graduates with Aggregate 25-45 Should Check Their Placement Early
If you fail to make use of the module early, you are not likely to find any day or boarding school closer to you.
Students who use the module very late also end up choosing day schools in other regions, and this will compel parents to either rent a hostel for them or get them enrolled in a private SHS.
Based on experience, candidates with an aggregate score of 25–45 may not be placed in any of the schools they selected and may have the chance to use the self-placement module. The self-placement module is loaded with schools with available slots, and nearly all candidates who have not been placed across the country will have to use the module. As students from other parts of the country use the self-placement module, the schools in the module will disappear from the database if all the slots available are filled.
Delaying in checking your school placement If your grade falls between aggregate 25 and 45, you will most likely not get a school at all to choose from in your region.
Again, both boarding and day schools are uploaded into the database of the self-placement module. If you obtained between aggregate 25 and 45 and want to attend a boarding school, you will have to check the results early and use the self-placement module to choose one of the available boarding schools before they get chosen by other students.
Sometimes, within 30 minutes, all the available good schools in the self-placement module can be selected by other candidates.
The GES self-placement module of the CSSPS offers a number of benefits to both students and parents, including:
- Flexibility: Students can self-place at any time during the placement period, which gives them more flexibility and control over their school placement. However, the earlier you do it, the better for you.
- Transparency: The self-placement process is transparent and easy to understand, and students and parents can see the availability of places at each school before they make their selection.
- Convenience: Students and parents can self-place from anywhere with an internet connection, which makes it more convenient for those who live in remote areas.
Note that a student who is not happy with their initial CSSPS placement cannot use the self-placement module once he or she is automatically placed by GES.
Overall, the GES self-placement module of the CSSPS is a valuable tool that can help students and parents get the most out of the CSSPS placement process if their ward has the chance to use the module.
