5 things candidates fear most ahead of the 2023 BECE results and school placements

There are 5 things candidates fear most ahead of the 2023 BECE results and school placements.

Information making rounds regarding the release of the 2023 BECE Results and School Placements is that the BECE results will be out between November 10 and 15, 2023, and at worst, by November 19, 2023.

Ahead of the release of the 2023 BECE Results and School Placements, we share with you some of the common fears of candidates each year ahead of the results.

#1. Not making the expected grade

The biggest fear of BECE candidates ahead of the release of their results is the fear that they will not make a good grade. When announcements are made about when the BECE result will be released, the candidates are always tensed up and begin to fear. Some imagine the possibility of a worse grade, and this brings them stress.

Candidates need to know that they cannot alter the results of their BECE by entertaining the fear of failing. The answers you provided for the examination will surely determine your results.

Whether you will pass or fail is not the issue, but the kind of answers you provided. Candidates are advised to remain calm and be hopeful of a good result.

#2. Note-making between Grades 1–5 in the core subjects

The grade and raw scores obtained are frequently what determine passing the BECE and placement. Since the core subjects (Mathematics, English Language, Integrated Science, and Social Studies) remain a critical aspect of the final determination of the student’s aggregate score, raw score, and school placement, students who take the examination always pray that they make a grade between 1 and 5 in each of the four core subjects.

Again, the kind of preparations you made ahead of the examination and how well you answered the questions will surely determine your performance in the four core subjects.

#3. Fear of having your BECE results been blocked

The most scary experience candidates do not want to have is having their BECE results blocked. Once a candidate’s result is blocked, he or she will not be able to access his or her results. Such blocked results would also mean the students whose results have been blocked cannot be placed in any of the schools they selected.

Until WAEC makes a final decision in favour of such students, they will not have the opportunity to be placed.

It is important to note that the result of a single or multiple subjects or the entire result of a candidate can be blocked by WAEC.

#4. Note being placed in their first or second choice

For candidates, the biggest prayer is to be placed in their first-choice school. The first choice is often an oversubscribed school in Category A. When a candidate misses the first choice, he or she hopes to get placed in the second choice.

However, this is not always the case due to the competition for placements from other candidates who obtained better grades and raw scores.

#5. Not getting boarding accommodation

BECE graduates fear missing the chance of being given the boarding accommodations they so much desire. All BECE candidates will love to be in a boarding house, but not all of them will get the chance since the slots available in all schools that have boarding are always less than the number of candidates who choose it.

Apart from the intense competition for placement resulting from the grades and raw scores of candidates, many candidates chose the boarding accommodation for nearly all schools they chose, apart from the compulsory day school in category D. Often, the boarding accommodation option is also an oversubscribed accommodation.

The oversubscription for boarding makes many BECE candidates who have passed the examination not be placed, even if they have the best grade and raw score.

Do not forget that each time a candidate is to be placed in a school, GES ensures that the programme choice and accommodation match the required raw score and aggregate for the school in question.
