2023 BECE Results Out This Month: More Details Here

The 2023 BECE results for candidates who sat the exam this year will be out before the end of November.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has already indicated on its 2023-2024 academic year calendar for second cycle schools that BECE graduates who will become SHS1 students will report to school on December 4th, 2023.

The release of the 2023 BECE results will be followed by the release of the school placements for candidates who excelled in the examination.

School placement is a very competitive way of placing students in second-cycle schools based on their grades, raw scores, and other factors in each of the schools they choose.

The competition is even more keen in Category A schools, which are always oversubscribed by candidates.

However, those who fail to get placed automatically in one of the eleven schools chosen may be permitted to use the self-placement module if the GES makes that part of the school placement system this year.

Students who cheated in the BECE will either have the results of some subjects cancelled or their entire result cancelled. This will depend on the seriousness of their malpractice before the West African Examination Council.

The Standard BECE Results Grading System

WAEC often uses the Standard BECE Results Grading System below. The 2023 BECE results to be released are likely to be based on this.

  • 90-100 is graded as 1 – This is interpreted as HIGHEST grade
  • 80-89, is grade as 2 -This is interpreted as HIGHER.
  • 70-79, is grade 3 – This is interpreted as HIGH.
  • 60 -69 is grade 4, This is interpreted as HIGH AVERAGE.
  • 55–60 is Grade 5-  This is interpreted as AVERAGE.
  • 50-54 is grade 6 – This is interpreted as LOW AVERAGE
  • 40-49 is grade 7 – This is interpreted as LOW
  • 35-39 is grade 8 – This is interpreted as LOWER
  • 0-34 is grade 9 – This is interpreted as  LOWEST grade.

Any candidate who obtains grade 9 in either Mathematics and or Integrated Science is often not placed in any school, even if he or she obtains grade one in all seven remaining subjects.

All four core subjects (Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, and English Language) are considered in the determination of a candidate’s final aggregate, which is made up of grades from the core subjects plus grades from the two best other subjects. Again, these subjects are used to compute a candidate’s raw score for placement purposes.
