The 2023 Academic year started in January this year and ends in September 2023 while the next academic year (2023/2024) will start in October 2023. The first term of the new academic year will commence this October.
WHAT IS THE REOPENING DATE FOR THE 2023/2024 ACADEMIC YEAR?
Although the Ghana Education Service is yet to release the full 2023/2024 academic year, information in the public domain indicates that schools will reopen on 3rd October 2023.
The GES is expected to release the confirmed reopening date for the first term of 2023/2024 before schools close on Thursday 14th September 2023.
The GES has worked hard to bring the academic calendar back to the pre-COVID status hence for the first time in three years, the GES has indicated earlier in the year that, the first term of the 2023/2024 academic year will start in October.
What this means is that parents will be furnished with booklists for the new academic year and students will move to or be promoted to new classes twice in the year 2023. In the absence of this, it will be impossible for the new academic year to return to what it used to be prior to COVID-19
This will help the Ghana Education Service restore the old academic year whereby the academic starts in September or October each year.
SHS VACATION DATES.
SHS(Single Track)
Senior High Schools that run in the single track will be going on vacation on 15th September 2023. SHS 2 students in this category have already ended their academic year.

SHS(Double Track Schools)
Double Track Schools will also have some vacation in the month of September. SHS 3 Students, who are currently writing their exams will bring an end Of their WASSCE this month. Aside from this, there will be no vacation for students to double-track schools. SHS o1 students, who are currently on break will be reopening on 25th September, 2023.
WHAT ABOUT TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
Most tertiary institutions are currently on vacation. They have ended the 2022/2023 academic year. Reopening dates for most institutions is in January 2024.
